New Delhi, April 29 : Mamata Banerjee s Trinamool Congress is set to retain power in West Bengal, all exit polls, except two, indicated after the month-long, eight-phase Assembly polls ended on Thursday.
Apart from the Axis My India-India Today and the Republic-CNX exit polls, which gave the BJP an edge in the battleground state, all other surveys, including the CVoter Exit Poll for Times Now/ABP News, forecast a third victory for the Trinamool, putting it ahead in the 294-member Assembly.

Most exit polls released on Thursday, the final phase of polling in West Bengal, gave an edge to Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress in returning to power for the third time, while predicting huge gains for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which emerged as a close contender in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Two rounds of elections are left in West Bengal amid the COVID-19 crisis
Kolkata:
The claim of free COVID-19 vaccination has become the latest flashpoint between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP as West Bengal prepares for two more rounds of voting in the assembly election.
During the Bihar election campaign last October, at the height of the first wave of the pandemic, the BJP had promised to vaccinate people for free in the state where Chief Minister Nitish Kumar s Janata Dal (United) and the BJP are allies.
The BJP has brought that promise to West Bengal now. As soon as BJP government comes to power in West Bengal, COVID-19 vaccine will be provided free of cost to everyone, the BJP tweeted from its official handle.

At 63, trade unionist Kushal Debnath will be voting for the first time in the ongoing elections in West Bengal. He never believed changing governments through elections could have any significant influence on the downtrodden people’s lives and, therefore, never went to any polling booth in his life. But he believes the West Bengal assembly election 2021 calls for special action.
“This election assumes special significance. The way the BJP is running a fascist campaign, pursuing divisive politics, communal polarisation, economic reforms favouring the capitalists as well as suppressing all critical voices, people should use every means available to prevent them from winning the Bengal elections,” said Debnath, a voter of Kolkata Port constituency in Kolkata.
