Police appeal to public for help with alleged attempted rape

Premium Content Subscriber only Police have appealed to several people who may have witnessed the alleged attempted rape of a young woman at Noosa to come forward. A Sunshine Beach man, 22, was on Thursday arrested and charged after he allegedly tried to sexually assault a young woman on April 18. Police say the woman was on her way to work about 5.20am when the man allegedly grabbed her. Sunshine Coast CIB officer-in-charge Daren Edwards said there were at least six people who may have spoken with the accused that morning. “There’s a few innocent people we would like to speak to about it,” Detective Senior Sergeant Edwards said.

A 27-year-old Buderim man was charged with 15 offences and a 27-year-old Mountain Creek man was charged with 11 offences. A further four men and a woman were also charged with dangerous drug offences. Sunshine Coast CIB officer-in-charge Daren Edwards said police will allege the seven people arrested were part of an “organised group”. “Certainly, it showed with the level of drugs they had access to,” Detective Senior Sergeant Edwards said. “They were fairly organised and people who had come up from southern areas of Brisbane which we are continuing investigation on.” Sergeant Edwards said the 13-ounce block alone had a value of $132,000.

No bail for man accused of attempted rape in Noosa

Premium Content Subscriber only A young man who was allegedly drunk when he attempted to rape a woman on her way to work said he felt sorry for the victim, a court has heard. Police allege the man approached a 34-year-old local woman on a thoroughfare between Noosa Parade and Hastings Street about 5.20am on April 18 before grabbing her and attempting to push her to the ground. Police said the woman managed to struggle free and fled to a nearby business where police were immediately called. This is a really serious example of an alleged rape attempt where the alleged victim and the client were completely unknown to one another and she is just attempting to go to work, he said.
