Florida is now the epicenter of the COVID outbreak. Breaking records over the weekend, on Saturday Florida saw more than 21,000 new cases.

Orlando Health, Halifax Health, and AdventHealth have all exceeded their previous pandemic peaks as cases continue their rapid rise. Healthcare heroes are facing a wave of COVID infections at levels never seen before.

Volusia hospitals report record-high number of COVID-19 patients
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Hospital systems in Volusia County say they are now hitting records for the entire coronavirus pandemic. As of Wednesday, the positivity rate in the county was 16.6%.
Halifax Health said COVID-19 hospitalizations have more than doubled in the past week and doctors are anticipating the numbers to stay high through early August.

“We’re not getting a lot of answers of, ‘Oh I just traveled across the country.’ It’s a lot of gatherings here, so summer vacations, socializing, July Fourth, a combination of all of these things,” said Margaret Crossman, the chief medical officer for Halifax Health.
In Flagler and Volusia Counties, hospital officials say there s been a significant increase in hospitalizations due to COVID-19.They are well able to handle the case load, but say it s clear the pandemic wave is ongoing.Halifax Health is currently handling 72 COVID-19 positive patients, 23 of which are in intensive care and 11 of those are on ventilators.Health officials say the majority of COVID-19 patients are from the unvaccinated population.“We are higher than any number that we ve had at any point of this pandemic from its beginning,” Chief Medical Officer Dr. Margaret Crossman said.Crossman said the mix of summer events and celebrations in an only partially vaccinated population is the reason Halifax Health is seeing an explosion in COVID-19 positive people needing critical care. She said the virus is socializing too.“It circulates, it mutates and it gets a little more capable of transmitting and getting past barriers,” Crossman said.Officials said they are seeing
