Friday notes.
THOSE ONE-RUN GAMES: The Cubs have played seven straight one-run games (currently 4-3 on that run) for the first time since August 23-30, 1996, when the team was involved in eight consecutive one-run contests (Cubs went 3-5). The franchise record for consecutive one-run games is nine, from June 24-July 4, 1906 (Cubs went 7-2).
RISP-Y BUSINESS: The Cubs had 20 hits in the two-game Cleveland series and batted .278 (20-for-72) overall. As you probably heard, the Cubs had just two hits in 27 at-bats with runners in scoring position (.074). That means they hit 18-for-45 (.400) in all other situations in the two games at Cleveland.

Granted that a couple of key players are on the injured list. And granted that Kris Bryant did not start this game because he was “under the weather,” and then when KB did get in the game, he had to leave right away after being hit on the hand. Fortunately, that turned out to not be a big deal:
• You’re just gonna miss this pitch by a lot. It is so fast and moves so unnaturally. It looks easily in the strike zone out of the hand, and then it’s gone. At 101 mph. If you hadn’t known him before, you do now. Cleveland closer, Emmanuel Clase:

• So far, the situation in San Diego is getting worse, with Fernando Tatis Jr. testing positive for COVID-19, and now also Wil Myers, plus all the guys out because of contacts:
To recap: Wil Myers and Fernando Tatis Jr. tested positive. Jorge Mateo, Jurickson Profar and Eric Hosmer (removed tonight due to contact-tracing protocols) join them on the COVID-IL. Both Tatis and Myers are asymptomatic. But that s 5/12ths of the Padres position players out.
