Captain’s log. Of all the seasons of
Voyager to date, the fifth was the one that had the most literal forward motion. Thanks to a wormhole of sorts (“Night”), experiments with the quantum slipstream drive (“Timeless”), and a stolen Borg transwarp conduit (“Dark Frontier”), they made several jumps ahead, cutting their journey home by tens of thousands of light-years.
We got a new recurring antagonist in the environmentally impure Malons (“Night,” “Extreme Risk,” “Juggernaut”), and two old recurring antagonists, as the Borg are still a problem (“Drone,” “Dark Frontier”), as are Species 8472 (“In the Flesh”), though our heroes reach a rapprochement with both 8472 and the Malon.
Manningtree train station is to receive some extra TLC after volunteers ‘adopted’ it. It’s all part of Greater Anglia’s Station Adoption scheme, as Kerry King and Martin Rayner are the proud new volunteers. The scheme plans to help make the station more attractive and welcoming. Former mayor of Manningtree Mrs King will be joined by her husband Martin, a retired project manager who plans to bring his practical skills to the role. Together they plan to maintain attractive floral displays at the station, brighten up the waiting rooms and create refuges for wildlife and birds. Mrs King said: “I always try and get involved in community activities and because we go everywhere by train it seemed appropriate to help Manningtree station look as good as possible.”
