No new cases of COVID in district | News, Sports, Jobs

Last week, four cases were confirmed – all among students. Since the pandemic began, the highest number of weekly cases reported by the district as been 34, which was in November. The district started weekly COVID-19 case reports on Sept. 18, in which seven cases were confirmed. A report on the number of COVID-19 cases within the district is shared weekly on Fridays. Each report shares the total number of new, confirmed cases among students and staff members throughout the district since the time of the previous report. The weekly COVID-19 reports focus exclusively on new, confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the time of the previous report.

Recommended for the award by Superintendent Theron Schutte, Wyant said recognition from her supervisor gave her the most satisfaction. “When Dr. Schutte told me he had nominated me, I was a little caught off guard,” Wyant said. “My work isn’t about the awards, my work is about doing great things for kids. Superintendent Theron Schutte of Marshalltown Community School District will receive an Alumni Achievement Award from the Iowa State University College of Human Sciences. New technology will be installed to upgrade Marshalltown Community School District’s board room allowing for remote participation at meetings and more. The Marshalltown Community School Board voted unanimously Monday night to approve a $38,517.54 purchase of new audio and visual equipment to be installed in the board room as soon as possible. Director of Technology Amy Harmsen said technological capabilities in the school board room make communicating with remote participants difficult, while other board members noted complications of including remote participants.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is returning to Marshall County, and this time will go to the Marshalltown Community College. Iowa Valley Community College District Chancellor Kristie Fisher said initial conversations between the school and government officials indicated the vaccines will arrive in mid-April. “I received an email letting me know the governor’s office was going to prioritize future doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for colleges,” she said. “I was delighted. I have watched the campus as things have been returning to normal. This is one step closer to the new normal, which I hope looks like what it did pre-pandemic.”
