The Prosecutor General has pressed six charges against former Villimale consituency MP Ahmed Nihan, in relation to the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal.
Nihan’s case was investigated jointly by the Maldives Police Service (MPS), the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Presidential Commission on Corruption and Asset Recovery before being forwarded for prosecution.
According to a press release by the Prosecutor General s Office on Tuesday, Ahmed Nihan has been found to have accepted bribes to influence his decisions as parliamentarian and the Chair of the National Budget Review Committee.

Maldives won the Best Island Destination of Asia Pacific during the sixth annual Travel Weekly Asia Readers Choice Awards 2020, during the virtual award ceremony held on December 11.
The Travel Weekly Asia Readers’ Choice Awards 2020 is a platform that salutes the outstanding travel suppliers in Asia Pacific, who set new benchmarks for the future of the tourism industry.
According to Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), the awards highlighted industry contributions across different segments, and voters got to choose across 57 award categories.

Visit Maldives, in collaboration with industry stakeholders, participated in a webinar series organized by the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA).
According to Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), this series was conducted on a one destination per webinar basis, in which a Maldives-focused three-hour session took place on the December 16, 2020.
MMPRC said that the purpose of this event was to relay the latest information about the newly established safe tourism guidelines, and the most recent updates on the Maldivian products to the Japanese travel market.

In conjunction with the reopening of Maldives’ border, Visit Maldives is conducting two visibility campaigns in the Southeast Asia region, named FreakOut and Travel+Leisure Southeast Asia.
According to Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation, the FreakOut is a digital campaign specifically for the Malaysian market, focusing on the middle early careers, young families, and Muslim travelers within this region.
The campaign included group-specific oustream In-Article Video Ads, Native Rich Media and In-Feed Content on online portals to attract tourists. The cumulative reach included a total 5,068,532 impressions, MMPRC said.
