The Malcom Baldridge National Quality Award was established by the United States Congress in 1987 to raise awareness and recognize companies that practice quality management and have successfully implemented quality management systems. Six categories of excellence can be recognized annually: manufacturing, service, education, healthcare, small business and nonprofit. The award is managed by the U.S. Commerce departmentâs National Institute of Standards and Technology. In 2014, four organizations were chosen from a field of twenty two applicants to receive the Baldridge award.
