Condolences to the family of Albert Bert Russell Hanson

August 4, 1940 - May 26, 2021 Bert passed away peacefully May 26, 2021 at the age of 80 following a week in palliative care in the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre following a short battle with cancer. He cherished the visits he was able to have with his family. Bert was born in the Drumheller hospital August 4, 1940 to Harry & Florence Hanson. He graduated from Morrin High School and began working with Alberta Government Telephones (AGT, now Telus) working with the tech guys and on call for phone transition problems. This is where he met Grace Hunter, whom he married in 1961, moved to Edmonton where they started their family with two boys. In the mid 60’s they purchased their first home in an upstart community named Sherwood Park where eventually a daughter became part of the family in 1971. Health foundation buys 38 bassinets for local hospital Poll Yes No, not fast enough There are 38 new Stryker bassinets at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital just in time for Mother’s Day. The Medicine Hat and District Health Foundation raised $152,000 to replace all the existing wooden bassinets at the hospital with a needed upgrade. “We actually launched the campaign in early 2020, before the pandemic even started,” said Heather Bach, the foundation’s executive director. “We were really excited to bring some new bassinets to our new families and new babies and then of course a pandemic arrived. So, we weren’t really loud about the campaign, but we continued moving forward on it because we still needed these bassinets.”

Foam Lake Health Foundation reaches digital x-ray goal

The Foam Lake and District Health Foundation has reached their digital x-ray campaign fundraising goal. The $254,000 campaign is the first to come to completion for the recently developed foundation. Co-chair Colleen Kostiuk said they brought the funds in rather quickly. “We figured it would probably be a two-year project but it took us just over a year,” Kostiuk said. “We had such great support and Chase the Ace raised more than we had anticipated, so we did very well.” Kostiuk has been part of the foundation alongside Graham Farrel since it’s inception in the fall of 2019. The digital x-ray was the first item on the wish list for the foundation.

Co-op reusable bag donation program supports organizations

By Chantal Wagner In order to try and keep as much plastic out of the landfill as possible, South Country Co-op is encouraging shoppers to bring in their reusable bags. And by being earth-friendly, local community groups and organizations will benefit. Marketing & Community Relations Manager Carmen Hudson says they will donate 3 cents for each reusable bag used per transaction. Here in Medicine Hat, our Ronald McDonald House will benefit. By shopping in Taber, their District Health Foundation will receive those donations. And the Vauxhall Public Library will also benefit from shopping at their local Co-op. Hudson says the program originally started in October of 2019 but was then put on hold in March of last year due to the pandemic.
