AAA A Coimbatore-based industrialist has donated ₹ 2.5 lakh worth healthy nutritious products to children at government homes in the district here.
P. Priyadevi, District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), has recently asked the people to alert the office if they come across children who lost their parents due to COVID-19, so that required assistance can be provided to the children. Following this, Ravi Sam, chairman, CSR and Affirmative Action Sub-Committee, CII Southern Region and Managing Director, Adwaith Lakshmi Industries Limited, contacted the officer and dispatched the products recently. Dry fruits, dry nuts, dates, health mix, lentils, sprouts, millets and other nutritious products that could help 200 children in the government homes were received and distributed to the children, she said.

HYDERABAD: Fatalities in the second wave of the Covid pandemic have unfortunately left several children orphaned. Lately, adoption posts for many of these children have been doing the rounds of social media. Women Development and Child Welfare (WDCW) Department Commissioner D Divya has, however, cautioned people against rushing for adoption through these mediums. She urged people to follow the due procedure as adoptions without permission from agencies concerned is an illegal act.
One such post on a social media platform reads, “Kids aged 2 years old baby girl and 2 months a baby boy whose parents have passed away due to covid. These kids need a home. If anyone close to you is looking for an adoption please contact me. Kindly share it as much as possible [sic].”

AAA The Salem district administration has offered shelter and support to children aged below 18 years whose parents have died of COVID-19 or were under treatment for the disease.
District Collector S.A.Raman said in a release that temporary or permanent support was offered as required for such children. People can contact the District Child Protection Officer at 0427-2415966, 75026 71771, 98945 18260, 97897 11877 or Chairman of the Child Welfare Committee at 0427-2410085 for assistance.
Public can also contact Childline 1098.
In order to assist elderly persons requiring assistance to get essentials or to report domestic violence complaints, the Namakkal district administration has provided the contact numbers of the District Social Welfare Office (04286 – 280230) and Sakhi-One Stop Centre ( 99948-75096).

Chennai, April 14 : Twelve men, including a BSNL junior engineer, have been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a 14 year old minor girl. The All women police station of Thiruchengode arrested the men which included her sister s husband.
The girl who is a Class 6 drop out was living with her sister as her father was bedridden and mother a daily wage employee.
Police said the arrests were made on Tuesday evening after the parents lodged a complaint with the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), Ranjitha Priya.
