Post Uttarakhand disaster, Chamba administration takes preventive measures | India News

CHAMBA: All the hospital buildings in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh will be made earthquake resistant besides the administration will use the historic Chaugan,a ground in the center of Chamba where most of the cultural activities are organized, as a relief camp with the facility of landing and taking off of the helicopter in case of emergency. The decisions were taken by the Chamba administration during a meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) held here on Wednesday. Later talking to TOI deputy commissioner Chamba, D C Rana informed that all the hospital buildings in Chamba would be made aseismic besides he said that the old hospital buildings would be assessed for the impact of earthquakes and their seismic resistance would be enhanced using retrofitting methods.

In his affidavit filed before the court, Chief Secretary P. Ravi Kumar said that a new account, by the name of SDRF, has been created, and the funds available with the heads of the existing Management of Natural Disaster, Contingency Plans in disaster-prone areas would transferred to it.

Red Fort to remain shut till further notice: Archaeological Survey of India

The Red Fort will remain shut till further notice as a measure against the spread of avian influenza, according to an order issued by the Archaeological Survey of India. The iconic site has been closed for visitors since January 19 after the district administration wrote to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) requesting it to shut the monument to restrict the spread of the disease. The site was also shut from January 22 to January 26 in view of Republic Day and was scheduled to open the following day when people from across the city get an opportunity to view tableaux from the Republic Day celebrations on display at the Red Fort premises for 15 days.

Ragesh Activists conduct nature walk through the river to create awareness Around 100 environmentalists and students from across the State took part in a nature walk through the Chalippuzha in Kodenchery grama panchayat on Sunday, to create awareness about the condition of the river. The ‘Puzha Nadatham’ was organised under the aegis of the Kerala Nadi Samrakshana Samiti in the wake of the destruction caused to the river in the name of disaster management recently. The participants were unanimous in their view that the river was in a sad state, and that it needed to be protected to restore its natural flow.
