OXFORD - A Lafayette County man was arrested Monday and charged with stealing a tractor.
Oxford police were dispatched to the 2100 block of Old Taylor Road May 17 for the theft of a tractor. Officers located the tractor in question in a nearby parking lot and made contact with Matthew Hancock, 38, of Oxford.
After further investigation, Hancock was arrested, charged with grand larceny and taken to the Lafayette County Detention Center. A Lafayette County Justice Court judge set his bond at $10,000, but he will not be getting out soon, because the Mississippi Department of Corrections has placed a hold on him.

FORREST COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - The 12th Judicial Metro Narcotics Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force captured a wanted man Wednesday and seized drugs, guns and cash.
Tabrakus Mark was wanted by the Mississippi Department of Corrections for escape, according to the Forrest County Sheriff’s Office. Evidence seized during the arrest. (Source: Forrest County Sheriff s Office)
Mark now faces pending charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute while in possession of a firearm and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The following people were booked into the Lee County-Tupelo Adult Jail in connection with felony charges ending Friday at 11 a.m.
Xavier Chandler, 31, no address given, was arrested by the Tupelo Police Department, possession of a Schedule II drug.
Nita Griffin, 50, of Pontotoc, was arrested by the Tupelo Police Department, possession of a Schedule II drug.
James Hamilton, 50, no address given, was arrested by the Lee County Sheriff s Office, possession of methamphetamine, receiving stolen property.
Marquest Nabors, 31, no address given, was arrested by the Mississippi Department of Corrections, violation of probation.
Annabelle Price, 19, no address given, was arrested by the Lee County Sheriff s Office, child abuse.

As report in this AP piece, the Mississippi Court of Appeals on Tuesday upheld a life sentence for a man convicted of a marijuana possession charge because he had previous convictions and those made him a habitual offender. Here is bit more about the ruling from the AP:
Allen Russell, 38, was sentenced to life in Forrest County in 2019 after a jury found him guilty of possession of more than 30 grams (1.05 ounces) of marijuana.
In Mississippi, a person can be sentenced to life without parole after serving at least one year in prison on two separate felonies, one of which must be a violent offense.
