(WTVA) - The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported 270 new COVID-19 cases and 4 new deaths Wednesday, April 7. New COVID-19 related deaths reported to MSDH as of 3 p.m. Tuesday. Four deaths occurred between April 1 and April 6 in the counties below: Amite 1 Noxubee 1 As of Wednesday, April 7, there have been 306,611 total cases of the virus since mid-March, which is when the state reported its first case. There have been 7,077 total deaths. The state health department estimates there have been 295,569 recoveries.

JACKSON, Miss, (AP) — Mississippi is receiving about $29.7 million from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to support coronavirus vaccination efforts. The award is part of $3 billion in coronavirus relief funding approved by Congress to bolster vaccinations, particularly among minority populations. “We are doing everything we can to expand access to vaccinations,” CDC Director Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky said Tuesday. “Millions of Americans are getting vaccinated every day, but we need to ensure that we are reaching those in the communities hit hardest by this pandemic. About 75% of the total funding must focus on specific initiatives intended to increase vaccine access and acceptance among racial and ethnic minority communities. At least 60% must go to support local health departments, community-based organizations and community health centers.

The two employees have been diagnosed with hepatitis A, and health officials said that the staff members had worked at the restaurant while potentially infectious, which could have led to possible exposure for customers.
