BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kellogg Community College baseball team is back in action almost a full year after a 2020 season cut short by COVID-19.
The Bruins opened the Spring 2021 season February 28, splitting a doubleheader with Ivy Tech Community College on the road in Stevensville. It was the teamâs first official game back since mid-March last year, when the season was canceled less than a dozen games into a season with nearly 60 scheduled.
It was a disappointing development after a wildly successful 2019 season finish as Michigan Community College Athletic Association state and conference champions and National Junior College Athletic Association regional champions. The team also finished seventh in the nation at the NJCAA Division II World Series that year, the seventh World Series appearance for the College since 1999.

KALAMAZOO, MI Dick Shilts is having trouble falling back asleep. In the last four months, he has spent time with the homeless community in Kalamazoo. He met people who are sleeping in trucks, abandoned buildings and even inside tree trunks.
In the 46 years that Shilts spent as a college basketball coach at Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo Valley Community College, there’s no doubt he’s had sleepless nights before.
