Day One for Oakland Family Services Director Andrea Orsini told Michigan News Network people need to acknowledge that anxiety is normal. “People are struggling with that concept of anxiety and feeling as though it’s not right to be anxious about returning to in-office work or kids going back to school on a full-time basis,” Orsini said. “In reality, we have been used to being at home, and we’ve been used to having a lot of control over our environment, and now there’s all kinds of uncertainty.”

Detroit Police Chief Talks Reform On Anniversary Of George Floyd s Death

May 25, 2021 Tuesday marks the one year anniversary of George Floyd’s death. He died when a Minneapolis police officer pressed his knee on his neck for about 9 and a half minutes. Floyd’s death, captured on video by a bystander, led to worldwide protests and a reexamination of racism and policing in the U.S. Detroit Police Chief James Craig weighed in this week with Michigan News Network. “The death of Mr. Floyd certainly has changed our profession,” Craig said. “Clearly, our profession is in crisis right now.” While Craig admits there’s a need for police reform, he says current aggression against police officers is unlike anything he’s ever witnessed. Credit Union President Offers Advice On Post Pandemic Budgeting

May 25, 2021 As more people return to work in person, it’s time to figure out a household budget again. Cornerstone Community Financial Credit Union President Heidi Kassab told Michigan News Network budgeting for non-negotiable costs is a good way to start: “Gas for your car, your daycare costs, things like that,” Kassab said. “So factoring those into your budget first, and then seeing what’s left over. I think the old rule still says you pay yourself first, which means saving is more difficult when expenses go up, but you want to save first before you spend.” Kassab says budgeting for the necessary first will allow you to treat yourself for the unnecessary. That would include things like the morning latte or lunch out.
