Michigan has 10,460 confirmed and five probable cases of B.1.1.7, the variant detected originally in the United Kingdom, with 533 confirmed cases reported in the Michigan Department of Corrections. In addition, there are 67 confirmed and two probable cases of the B.1.351 strain first detected in South Africa. Two strains originally detected in California, B.1.427 and B.1.429, account for 73 and 219 cases, respectively. There have been three cases of B.167.1 and nine of B.167.2, both of which were originally detected in India, and there have been 200 confirmed cases and one presumed case of the P.1 strain originally detected in Brazil. Michigan has a total of 11,039 variant cases.
Michigan adds 1,132 cases, 38 deaths from COVID-19
Michigan on Friday added 1,132 coronavirus cases and 38 deaths from COVID-19.
The latest figures bring Michigan s total number of cases to 882,189 and deaths to 18,853 since the virus was first detected in March 2020, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services.
Cases and testing positivity have declined for the last five weeks.
Last week, the state added 11,991 new cases and 402 deaths from the virus, a decrease from the previous week of May 2-8, when the state added 18,248 new cases and 464 deaths from the virus.
During the week of April 25 through May 1, the state added 25,065 cases and 454 deaths.
