Downstate student dies in U.P. crash on way back to Michigan Tech

MARQUETTE COUNTY, MI – One person is dead and three are injured after a crash in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
The crash occurred on US-41 in Marquette County’s Michigamme Township on Saturday when a 20-year-old woman, later identified by Michigan Tech University as Charlotte Jenkins of Fenton, was driving
a 2005 Pontiac Aztek westbound.
According to WLUC-TV, she lost control of the vehicle near mile marker 102 and collided with two eastbound vehicles while she was returning to campus for the beginning of the semester.
Jenkins, a third-year computer engineering student, later died from fatal injuries sustained in the crash. Her 19-year-old passenger was transported to UP Health System Marquette for treatment of serious injuries.
