Alcohol to be allowed in designated outdoor Lansing social zones

LANSING  Drinking alcohol would be allowed in designated outdoor common areas under a resolution adopted by Lansing City Council Monday night.  The plan, which is pending approval by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission, will create zones in the city, known as social districts, where people may eat food and drink alcohol purchased from nearby restaurants and bars. The changes will allow businesses to serve more customers amid coronavirus-related capacity restrictions. And it could turn sections of the city into social destinations,  City Council President Peter Spadafore said. I hope it will allow for businesses that have been reeling from capacity limits to be able to adjust better and survive the pandemic but also create spaces where people can enjoy outside spaces in Lansing, said Spadafore, who introduced the proposal.
