Bars, Restaurants, and Patrons Reminded of COVID-19 Regulations
With St. Patrick’s Day celebrations kicking off this weekend, the Michigan Liquor Control Commission is reminding bars and taverns to serve patrons responsibly.
That includes adhering to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Emergency Order.
Businesses are also reminded to verify that their customers are 21 years old or older and to deny service to intoxicated individuals.
The MDHHS Gathering and Face Mask Order allows indoor dining and includes guidelines of 50% capacity, an 11 p.m. curfew, and requires social distancing.
Businesses that violate the emergency order will risk having their license suspended or revoked.

March 12, 2021 – With St. Patrick’s Day revelry kicking off this weekend, the Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC) reminds its 19,000 liquor licensees to serve patrons responsibly and adhere to the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS) Emergency Order. As St. Patrick’s Day is one of the deadliest holidays due to drunk driving, Michiganders are urged to never drink and drive.
250,000 Bottles of Wine Illegally Shipped into Michigan
One of every three bottles of wine shipped to Michigan was done so illegally.
A modern-day bootlegging industry has many in Michigan unwittingly consuming illegal booze. According to a release from the Michigan Beer and Wine Wholesalers Association (MB&WWA), nearly one-third of every bottle of alcohol shipped into Michigan in 2019 was shipped illegally. The data compiled by MB&WWA shows in total, 2,233,880 bottles of alcohol were shipped into Michigan in 2019, and of those bottles, 734,365 were shipped illegally. Data collection for 2020 and 2021 has been slowed by the COVID-19 pandemic so the number may continue to grow.
