Man charged with murdering his 89-year-old grandmother, authorities say

Authorities on Tuesday said a Carteret man was charged with the murder of his 89-year-old grandmother, who was found dead at her borough home about four months ago.
Shawn Gonzalez, 39, was in custody at the county jail after his arrest in the slaying of Dolores Babij, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Carteret police were called to an unspecified first aid emergency shortly before 4 a.m. on Aug. 27 at Babij’s home, where they found her dead in a chair, according to a statement from the prosecutor’s office.
Man arrested after grabbing woman’s buttocks on N.J. street, cops say

A 20-year-old man who grabbed the buttocks of a woman as she walked in New Brunswick earlier this month has been arrested, authorities said.
Dandre Burrell, of New Brunswick, was charged with criminal sexual contact on Dec. 16, four days after he inappropriately touched the woman on Robinson Street, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday. He ran away after grabbing the woman, according to investigators.
Burrrell was sent to the Middlesex County jail on Monday after a detention hearing, officials said.

Authorities have charged a Piscataway high school student with vehicular homicide and aggravated manslaughter in the death of his passenger, a fellow student, when a freight struck their vehicle last month.
The collision took place at New Brunswick Avenue and Tyler Place in Piscataway, where the vehicle was hit as it “drove through a railroad crossing” at the intersection, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Man altered benefits checks, stole $12K from social services board, authorities say

An East Brunswick man was charged Wednesday with stealing $12,000 from the Middlesex County Board of Social Services, authorities said.
Alejandro Urgilez, 33, was charged with forgery, theft by deception and uttering, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office announced Thursday.
Urgilzez was charged after an investigation revealed that he altered copies of benefits checks issued by the board and deposited about $12,000 in stolen funds into his bank account, the office alleged.
No other information was released Thursday night as the investigation into the alleged crime remained ongoing.
