Updated: 6:18 PM EDT Jul 13, 2021 An 11-year-old girl has died a week after she was pulled from the Merrimack River in Lowell, according to the Middlesex District Attorney s Office.On July 6, Lowell police said officers responded to the area of the VFW Highway near Aiken Avenue shortly after 1 p.m. for a report of a person struggling in the water.When they arrived at the scene, officers found a good Samaritan rendering medical aid to a girl, who is from Lowell, on the edge of the river. First responders continued life-saving measures on the child, who was transported to a local hospital and then flown to a Boston area hospital by medical helicopter in critical condition.The Middlesex District Attorney s Office confirmed Tuesday that the girl died of her injuries.The victim has not been identified.Investigators determined that the girl was in the river with another young child when she began struggling.
