Authorities said the man had been working in the foundation of a residence when a wall collapsed and pinned him to the ground. The man was pronounced dead on the scene, authorities said. Newton police notified the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office about the fatal incident at 8 a.m. on Thursday, officials said.

The demand for an independent investigation came Tuesday night on the GBH show Greater Boston, where Ryan and Violence in Boston s Monica Cannon-Grant met for the first time to talk about the circumstances of Mikayla Miller s death. The interview was taped shortly after Ryan released new details about the case, including that the girl was assaulted by two other teens hours before she was found dead in a wooded area in Hopkinton.

What happened to Mikayla Miller?  The event is sponsored by Violence in Boston, a Boston organization that works with victims of crimes. It termed Miller’s death a “mystery” and said the rally is to “demand answers from District Attorney Marian Ryan.” Violence in Boston did not reply to emails seeking comment. Ryan, in a statement released on Sunday, said her office and the Massachusetts State Police are continuing to investigate Miller’s death. “The death of Mikayla Miller is a tragedy and an unimaginable loss for her family and the entire community,” the district attorney said. “We know that everyone mourning her is seeking answers. Our investigation into the events of April 17-18, 2021, remains open. While we await a ruling from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, we will continue gathering information and interviewing witnesses. As the investigation unfolds, we will be in contact with Mikayla’s family and their representatives.”
