THE Olyroos are the masters of their own fate heading into the final group stage fixture of the Tokyo 2020 Men s Football Tournament against Egypt on Wednesday night.
Australia have three points on the board after securing victory over Argentina in the first game of the group stage. Defeat to Spain was to follow, leaving Graham Arnold s side in need of a point or more against Egypt to progress to the knockout phase.
Seven of the 11 players used in Australia s starting XI against both Spain and Egypt featured in the 2020/21 A-League campaign. With Mitchell Duke, Riley McGree and Nathaniel Atkinson all suspended after picking up two yellow cards, opportunities may arise for fringe A-League Olympians to break into Arnold s side to take on Egypt on Wednesday night.

AFTER defeating Argentina 2-0 in their first fixture of the Men s Football Tournament at Tokyo 2020, the Olyroos fell just short of another impressive result against Spain on Sunday night.
Olyroos boss Graham Arnold handed starts to seven players who featured in the A-League throughout the 2020/21 campaign as he looked to orchestrate another shock result at the Sapporo Dome. Australia held firm until the 80th minute when Spanish forward Mikel Oyarzabal headed home the only goal of the game to hand the Olyroos a 1-0 defeat.
Australia now need to register a draw or better against Egypt on Wednesday, July 27 to progress to the knockout phase of the tournament.
