Media pundits are torn on whether Carlton is making the right call in playing Charlie Curnow this Friday night against St Kilda.
Curnow has not played since 2019, dealing with ongoing knee issues, but has been slowly building up for a return in the back half of 2021.
After months of training, he has run out in two scratch matches for the Blues and emerged unscathed.
Given Victoriaâs lockdown, Curnow hasnât actually played in a proper VFL match, but coach David Teague strongly indicated he was now available to be selected in the AFL side on Wednesday given everything theyâve seen.

Carlton key forward Charlie Curnow is likely to play his first game since 2019 on Friday night against St Kilda.
After getting through two scratch matches, coach David Teague has confirmed that Curnow will in all likelihood play if he gets through training.
Fellow key forward Harry McKay however is “unlikely” to return after being a late withdrawal with a toe injury last week. Charlie was keen to play last week and put his hand up, Teague told reporters on Wednesday morning. We weren t going to rush the process, so we stuck to our plan. He got through that well, so he s available now. If he gets through training today then that s potentially what will happen, we ll pick him and give him a chance to play AFL football again.
