Dave Eustace trained the quinella in the South Australian Derby – another notch on the belt of this extraordinary, youthful training duo – a wily rival trainer quipped: “look at them in the yard.”
“Sprinters, stayers, jumpers, they’re all the same,” the trainer said. “They just lope around, heads down. You look at a lot of trainers and their horses are yanking at the bridle, wasting energy. Ciaron’s horses are so relaxed. He gets inside their heads. The man is a freak.”

Police in Derry are investigating a number of commercial burglaries in the Campsie area over the weekend and asking business owners to take the opportunity now to review their security measures.
Crime Prevention Officer Mitch Freedman explains: “Businesses that don’t operate over the weekend or are based in an industrial estate on the outskirts can be more vulnerable therefore ensure you are making best use of alarm systems, CCTV and other measures to secure your properties.

Police in Derry are appealing to the public to be vigilant to cold callers following a number of suspicious reports across Northern Ireland in recent days.
Crime Prevention Officer Mitch Freedman explains: “These incidents have involved males calling to houses asking about motorhomes for sale or offering to carry out home repair work. While some of these callers may be genuine we are asking residents to follow some simple steps.
· Do not feel pressurised into opening your door. Tell the person to go away or point to the No Cold Callers sticker on your door. If you don’t have one please contact your local station on 101.

Jockey Zac Spain has had a serious handling charge dismissed, with the Victorian Racing Tribunal ruling it was not comfortably satisfied the charge was made out.
The 24-year-old had been charged under AR 129(2) for his ride on Island Empress in Race 3 at Moe on November 19, when stewards alleged he failed to maintain his position behind the eventual winner To The Barricades and instead went back to the inside fence.
However, at the VRT hearing conducted before Judge John Bowman and Heidi Keighran on Wednesday, it was ruled that Spain had followed instructions by going close to the rails and riding for luck, which did not eventuate.
