MPD reports 65 traffic accidents because of icy roads

The Midland Police Department reported 45 minor accidents and 20 other accidents with injuries from midnight to 2 p.m. today because of icy road conditions, according to a city spokesperson.
A Facebook post from the MPD this morning asked drivers to use caution, slow down, allow extra time to travel and stay home if possible. The worst spots for accidents were Loop 250, Interstate 20 and Highway 191, according to the post.
TxDOT reported patches of ice and snow on Loop 250, Big Spring Street, Interstate 20 and several farm-to-market roads. They discouraged driving on these roads because of black ice.

There is a chance of snow later in the week.
The National Weather Service reported Monday that a cold front will move into the area on Wednesday and bring with it, northerly winds and low temperatures bottoming out in the upper 20s.

Today’s gusty conditions appear to be opening the door for the coldest evening in some time.
The National Weather Service is showing a low temperature below 20 degrees tonight.
The low should reach 19, which would be the lowest low temperature since Feb. 6, when the low reached 6 degrees.
The bitter cold will be a temporary thing as the low Wednesday night will be around 27 degrees and the low Thursday will be around 37.
