The positivity rate for COVID at Midland Health testing sites is on pace to be the highest since August.
Midland Health on its website Wednesday reported that 29.8 percent of the 551 people who have tested this week for COVID-19 tested positive. The highest positivity rate for a week since August took place during the week of Nov. 28 when 28.1 percent of the 1,399 people tested positive.
Last week, 26.2 percent of the 1,173 people tested positive. That positivity rate was the second highest since August.
Health department: Overall COVID case count is up to 11,506

The health department completed case contacting for COVID-19 positives received on Dec. 22 and Dec. 23.
The count of new cases was 187 on Dec. 22 and 124 on Dec. 23. These cases bring the overall case count to 11,506, according to the health department.
There are 1,379 isolating patients, 7,273 people have recovered, and 2,330 are under investigation.
There have been 39 COVID-19-related deaths in Midland County this month and 185 during the pandemic.
Also reported on Tuesday, the health department received 175 unconfirmed positive cases on Monday. This count is reflective of the number of positive test results received from testing locations. The patients have been notified by the testing location of the results; however, the patients have not been contacted by the health department to confirm residency, gather their close contacts, or to advise them on guidelines.

City reports most cases in one day in December

The city of Midland reported Wednesday that the 201 unconfirmed cases on Tuesday were the most of any day during the month of December.
The 201 cases were the most going back to the 314 from Nov. 30. The Midland Health Department also reported that the cases brought the total of cases (confirmed and unconfirmed) during the month of December to 2,269 and the number of cases during the pandemic to 12,663.
The city also reported Wednesday that a man in his 90s became the 184th COVID-19-related death during the pandemic. He had underlying health conditions was being treated at Helen Greathouse Manor at Manor Park. He died on Dec. 17.
