MIDLAND, Texas Getting the COVID-19 vaccine out to the community is not going without challenges.
Medical Center and Midland Memorial Hospital seem to have a mass vaccine system down.
Once those in phase 1A and 1A get vaccinated, the hubs will slowly stop and leave the vaccine to be administered by private physicians in the community.
But first, those physicians must prove to the state that they have the equipment needed to properly store the vaccine.
The Pfizer vaccine needs to be stored at negative 94 degrees (F), while the Moderna vaccine needs to be stored at negative 4 degrees (F).

However, health officials warn that even though COVID-19 positivity and hospitalization rates are trending down, this is no time to relax. As quickly as this falls it can rise up again quickly so we should continue to do our part: wear a mask, get vaccinated, wash your hands, social distance, and just be safe out there. That’s what we’ve been doing for such a long time, Russell Tippin, Medical Center Hospital CEO said.
COVID-19 Positivity Rate Down According to Midland Health
Midland is seeing the lowest level of COVID-19 positivity since September.
According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, Midland Health test centers had a positivity rate of 12.2% which is the lowest since 11.5% back in September.
Midland Health is also reporting that they have had four weeks of declines in positivity rates and also that 14 percent of the total rooms in Midland Memorial Hospital are being used on COVID patients.
That is also the lowest rate of rooms being used for COVID patients since early October when those rates began spiking.
Currently there are 17 in the Critical Care Unit and 13 on the COVID Floor, overall 67% of the 284 total hospital rooms are occupied within Midland Memorial Hospital.
Victim Shot to Death During Bar Fight
MIDLAND, TX – A fight at the El Mitote Sports Lounge turned deadly after a patron was shot to death.
According to the Midland Police Department, the shooting occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a verbal altercation broke out outside the bar at closing time.
The argument turned physical and then Juan M. Anguiano was shot.
Anguiano was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Officers discovered multiple suspects were involved in the shooting, but they fled the scene before police arrived.
