I commenced my role as End of Life Coordinator in February this year. In this role, I am responsible for leading on, supporting and coordinating all activities associated with end of life care across Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore, Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise and Naas General Hospital.

A meeting to address the lack of vital end-of-life and palliative services in the Midlands will take place this evening, Monday, April 19.
The Midlands region of Laois, Offaly, Longford and Westmeath is the only region in Ireland that does not have a hospice and this must be urgently addressed according to local Senator Fiona O’Loughlin.
“The Midlands Region has been described as a ‘blackspot’ when it comes to the lack of inpatient end-of-life services,” said Senator O’Loughlin.
“I am determined that this situation not continue,” she added. “I have facilitated a meeting between Minister Donnelly and the Chair of the Midlands hospice committee Professor Humphrey O Connor to progress the provision of a site at Tullamore hospital on Monday, April, 19.”

An Irish healthcare initiative to plant a tree for every nurse in Ireland was launched today in the Midlands.
Nurse A Tree are raising €200,000 to plant a tree for all 80,000 nurses across Ireland as a living legacy to honour, give thanks and recognition to all nurses in Ireland who have been frontline during the Pandemic.
Trees were planted at the Midlands Hospitals in Tullamore and Portlaoise today by Pippa Hackett, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, to mark the start of the campaign.
