Prior to the election, no party held an overall majority within the authority, although the Conservatives were able to rule with the support of independents. The previous election in 2017 led to Labour being ousted from control. Counting began at 10am on Friday, May 7. The Conservatives have since won 37 seats, with the biggest shock coming with the leader of the Labour group in Nottinghamshire losing his seat to the Conservative Party candidate.
