Dose of Arctic air in Northeast, Upper Midwest to be accompanied by spotty snow

As a tiny piece of the polar vortex spins across southern Canada, forecasters say that a small dose of Arctic air will be turned loose on the northeastern United States and part of the Midwest into the weekend and will continue to produce barrages of lake-effect snow and snow showers in the region.

A New Year s storm that brought very heavy snow and ice from Texas to the Midwest brought more winter weather to the Northeast.
The storm brought over a foot of snow to west Texas and up to 10 inches of snow just outside Oklahoma City. A band of 5 to 7 inches of snow locally also went through parts of Kansas.
