11 runs not enough as SMU softball drops pair - Winona Post > Article

11 runs not enough as SMU softball drops pair (5/12/2021) With just four Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) games remaining  and its offense stuck in neutral  the Saint Mary’s University (SMU) fastpitch softball team was in dire need of an offensive pick-me-up. Which is exactly what the Cardinals got.  The Cardinals mired in an offensive slump following back-to-back shutout losses to Saint Benedict earlier this month  finally saw their offense come to life against Concordia College on Saturday afternoon, scoring 11 runs in its conference twin bill. Problem was, five runs in the first game and six in the second would not be enough, as Concordia used a pair of big, late-game innings to deal the Cardinals 7-5 and 10-6 setbacks at Jake Christiansen Stadium.

Cardinals bats come to life in 11-0 rout - Winona Post > Article

(5/5/2021) If Saint Mary’s University baseball coach Nick Winecke was concerned that his squad might show any ill effects after dropping the first two games of their three-game Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series against St. Olaf College, the Cardinals quickly put those fears to rest. Saint Mary’s erupted for five, third-inning runs and their offense never showed signs of letting up, as the Cardinals scored in each of the final five innings they batted en route to an 11-0 victory at Mark Almli Field. The Cardinals, coming off 8-4 and 14-6 losses to the Oles at Max Molock Field on Saturday, started slow  being held off the scoreboard in each of their first two at-bats.

Cardinals get back on the winning track - Winona Post > Article

Cardinals get back on the winning track (3/3/2021) After three straight road games, the Saint Mary’s University men’s basketball team returned home to the friendly confines of the Saint Mary’s Gym Saturday afternoon for a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference showdown against Hamline University. Friendly for the Cardinals  not so much for the Pipers. Saint Mary’s took the court with a bit of a chip on their shoulder, having had their five-game winning streak snapped with a one-point, 61-60 loss to Gustavus on Wednesday. And the Cardinals were determined to get back on the winning track against Hamline.
