UPDATED: Bemidji School Board votes 5-1 to close Central Elementary
Despite some vocal opposition, the Bemidji Area Schools Board of Education voted Monday evening to close Central Elementary.
The split was 5-1, with all members voting “yea” with the exception of Board Member Gabriel Warren, to “approve the closure of Central Elementary School and redistricting attendance boundaries for Central Elementary students to other neighborhood PreK-3 elementary schools.” 3:08 pm, Mar. 16, 2021 ×

BEMIDJI The closing of Central Elementary was a decision no one wanted to make.
The weekend before Christmas, and during a global pandemic when our economy is already strained, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency announced its plans to move forward on this awful plan
It is terrible policy to make this significant change without going through the legislative process that allows our state senators and representatives to hear from us as constituents. Many of the local northwest Minnesota Legislators from both sides of the aisle have said that.

For those of us in northwest Minnesota and even in eastern North Dakota, communities, car dealers and consumers on both sides of the border will be affected negatively. Vehicles sold in Minnesota dealerships will be more expensive, and those sold in North Dakota won’t be able to be registered in Minnesota.
