MINNEAPOLIS The defense attorney for former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin formally asked the court Wednesday to give his client probation instead of prison time in the death of George Floyd.
In his argument for probation, Eric Nelson cited Chauvin s zero criminal history score, his mature age, low risk to re-offend, and that Chauvin has the support network he needs to succeed as he moves past this incident.
The Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) is requesting the publicâs assistance in locating fugitive Robert Thomas Baca, who was last seen in California.
Baca was released from the Minnesota DOC on Oct. 5, 2020. His supervision was subsequently transferred to the California Department of Corrections in San Bernardino, California, where he has family and a support system.
On May 11, Baca was released from the Southwest Regional Detention Center in Murrieta, California where he was being questioned on new charges, and was instructed to report to his California agentâs office the next day. He failed to report to his agentâs office.
The Minnesota Department of Corrections issued an advisory on June 2 seeking the public's assistance in locating an escaped inmate, Robert Thomas Baca. The escapee was serving the remainder of his Minnesota sentence under supervised release in California, administered by the California Department of Corrections in San Bernardino.
