MnDOT Ending Winter Load Increases
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) announced that the winter load increases will be ending on Wednesday March 3, 2021 at 12:01 AM for the south, southeast and metro frost zones. During the winter when the frost is in the ground truckers can get a permit to haul a load greater than 80,000 pounds gross vehicle weight. When the frost begins to come out of the ground it puts additional stress on the roads so the overweight restrictions are ended.
Typically MnDOT has ended the winter load increases and put the spring road restrictions on at the same time. So, when I first saw the MnDOT news release i assumed the spring load restrictions were going on too. It was a good thing I actually read the news release. However, I sure it is safe to assume very soon the spring load restrictions will be going on too. MnDOT will continue to evaluate weather forecasts to determine the start date for spring load restrictions in these zones.
Counterpoint: I-35E was a rare victory for free people over freeways The reason for the low speed limit is complicated and not just a compromise for political expediency; it was about local citizens.

The Star Tribune s Curious Minnesota article on Interstate 35E in St. Paul (metro, Feb. 12) presents a good summary of the development of that part of our interstate highway system. But in its brevity there are significant omissions. The characterization of the 45 mile-per-hour speed limit by the gentleman who was a researcher for the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is disrespectful and cynical.
A second suspect who was not injured was arrested, according to Blaine Police Chief Brian Podany.
A police officer was hospitalized with minor injuries. Anoka police said a K-9 named Bravo was shot and taken to the University of Minnesota Veterinary Center, where the police dog was said to be resting comfortably Monday.
Police said they responded to a call involving a possible theft at the Kohl s department store in Blaine just before 1 p.m. The two suspects had a stolen vehicle, and fled, then carjacked another vehicle at gunpoint nearby, leading police on a 40-mile high-speed chase through Anoka and Isanti counties, police said.
