On May 1, the country celebrated National Skilled Trades Day to honor the contributions men and women working in the skilled trades make to our local, state and national economies and quality of life. These workers perform a variety of jobs that require specialized skills that are learned on-the-job, through apprenticeship programs, and at two-year colleges.
These occupations are frequently referred to as blue-color or hands-on jobs, implying that they typically involve physical effort to build, maintain, drive, assemble, repair, or administer the required activity.

Minnesota State College Southeast will live stream the annual Student Guitar Show, featuring the debut of acoustic steel-string guitars made by the college s lutherie students in Red Wing. The broadcast will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 13, on YouTube.
Each brand new guitar will be introduced by a faculty member, then will be played in concert on stage for the first time.Guitarist Phil Heywood, a national fingerstyle champion, has been recruited to play the guitars.

Minnesota State Chancellor Devinder Malhotra will speak at the MSC Southeast Online Commencement Ceremony.
WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-Minnesota State College Southeast will hold a virtual commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 13.
The college will honor graduates of its Winona and Red Wing campuses in a video that premiers at 7 p.m. on YouTube. The video is hosted by Vice President of Academic Affairs Chad Dull and will feature words of wisdom, a reading of graduates’ names, and alumni award announcements.
The college also established a Kudos board online with a gallery of graduate photos, and students are encouraged to upload their own photos.

Minnesota State College Southeast was one of six institutions in Minnesota chosen to receive a Libraries Transforming Communities (LTC) grant. Small and rural public libraries, academic libraries, and Learning Resource Centers from across the country were awarded a $3000 grant to facilitate community conversations and fund engagement projects.

WINONA Sometime around December or just after the new year begins, Melissa Skappel and her family will move into their new home.
When that day comes, though, they ll have already spent hundreds of hours inside their home, often with a hammer or a paint brush.
Skappel and her family – along with community volunteers – are building their home through Habitat for Humanity Winona-Fillmore Counties Homeownership Program.
