Derek Chauvin s trial shifts to medical testimony to identify George Floyd s cause of death

Derek Chauvin’s trial shifts to medical testimony to identify George Floyd’s cause of death Dr. Martin Tobin, a renowned pulmonary critical care doctor based in Chicago, took the stand on Thursday morning to offer his expert analysis of why George Floyd died while under Derek Chauvin’s knee last May. “Mr. Floyd died from a low level of oxygen,” he testified. “This caused damage to his brain that we see, and it also caused a PEA arrhythmia that caused his heart to stop,” he said referring to pulseless electrical activity, a type of cardiac arrest. “The cause of the low level of oxygen was shallow breathing,” he added. “Small breaths. Small tidal volumes. Shallow breaths that weren’t able to carry the air through his lungs down to the essential areas of the lungs that get oxygen into the blood and get rid of the carbon dioxide.”

Derek Chauvin Murder Trial: Live Updates On Justice In The George Floyd Case

6:05 p.m. The final part of Wednesday’s testimony in the Derek Chauvin murder trial focused on the finding of forensic scientists who participated in the investigation of the criminal case. Much of what prosecutors and the defense chose to ask witnesses about were the pills linked to George Floyd that were found in the squad car where officers tried to place him when he was arrested last May. Prosecutors called to the stand McKenzie Anderson, who is a crime scene leader with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. She testified that no evidence was collected from the scene in Minneapolis where the incident took place. Both Floyd’s vehicle and the squad car were towed to the BCA’s headquarters for processing. She performed that task on May 27, two days after Floyd’s death and took photos of the interior and exterior of the vehicles.

Chauvin trial: Did Floyd really yell, I ate too many drugs? | News, Sports, Jobs

Apr 8, 2021 MINNEAPOLIS (AP) The defense attorney for the former Minneapolis police officer on trial in the death of George Floyd tried Wednesday to show that Floyd yelled “I ate too many drugs” as three officers pinned him to the ground. Attorney Eric Nelson didn’t get the clear confirmation he was seeking, but he may have planted a seed in jurors’ minds anyway as he seeks to sow reasonable doubt about the prosecution’s case against Derek Chauvin. Part of his strategy for defending Chauvin against murder and manslaughter charges has been to deflect responsibility for Floyd’s death last May 25 away from Chauvin a white officer who prosecutors say knelt on the Black man’s neck for 9 1/2 minutes and onto Floyd himself for using illegal drugs. An autopsy found fentanyl and methamphetamine in his system.
