After a yearlong delay, a new restaurant fully owned and operated by the Minnesota Farmers Union will soon open in downtown Minneapolis.
Farmers Kitchen + Bar, set to open its doors in early summer, will take over the space at 750 S. 2nd St. in the historic Mill District. (That s the former Spoonriver space, across from the Guthrie Theater.) It will be open daily, a news release says, offering breakfast, dinner and supper, plus grab-and-go items, products from local makers and farm-fresh produce, eggs and meat.

WASHINGTON, D.C. A broad coalition of 133 conservation, farmer and rancher, sportsmen, and wildlife groups urged the leadership of the U.S. House and U.S. Senate agriculture committees in a letter to ensure the forthcoming infrastructure package includes robust funding for Farm Bill conservation programs and farmer assistance. They specifically urged Congress to double the investment in Farm Bill conservation programs and to ramp up conservation technical assistance funding.

ST. PAUL ― The 2021 Minnesota legislative session has reached its final stages with the release of omnibus agricultural bills from committees.
Both House and Senate agriculture committees recently passed their respective omnibus bills that addressed several key priorities for the state s ag industry. Both bills committed to resolving issues surrounding biofuels infrastructure, rural broadband and meat processing capacity.

The Senate bill, authored by Sen. Torrey Westrom, R-Elbow Lake, chairman of the Senate agriculture committee, addressed everything the committee was concentrated on for this session, Westrom said.
A future with more ethanol means a healthier, prosperous, and more energy independent Minnesota.

Minnesota’s proud agricultural community plays a vital role in putting food on America’s table. Farmers should be recognized for meeting America’s energy needs as well. Ethanol is a renewable fuel that helps Americans save money at the pump, opens up new and needed markets for U.S. farmers, and burns cleaner than fossil fuels. As we face calls for transforming our energy supply, Minnesota should expand access to higher ethanol blends like E15 to create the most favorable environment for farmers and consumers alike.
