Laredo ISD updates status of its drivers ed pilot program May 7, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail Drivers ED.Getty Images LISD families and students was updated on the drivers education pilot program that were discussed in early April during a committee meeting on Wednesday. In order to operate the drivers ed program, the Texas Education Agency stated that for an individual to teach all phases of the program, they would need to receive the State Board of Educator Certification drivers education endorsement as a specialization on their current Texas teaching certificate, said CCMR Director Rogelio Garcia. Additionally, the teacher would be required to have a bachelor’s degree, a valid driver’s license for instruction vehicles and not have accumulated six or more penalty points in the past 36 months for their driving record. Lastly, the certification requires the teacher to have completed nine hours of driver education classroom, in-car simulation and traffic instruction.
