Judge rules district can’t force Minneapolis teachers to return to in-person classes
A judge has sided with a teachers union this weekend, ruling that Minneapolis Public Schools can t require teachers to return to class if they have requested accommodations to work from home.
(FOX 9) - A judge has ruled that Minneapolis Public Schools can t require teachers to return to class if they have requested accommodations to work from home.
Some teachers were set to return to school on Monday for the first time since March, when the pandemic sent students and teachers to work from home.
Meanwhile, districts scrambling to implement new state plan to vaccinate limited number of school staff.

ST. PAUL Thousands of Minnesota elementary students returned to school Tuesday morning, Jan. 19 some of them seeing their classrooms in person for the first time ever.

MINNEAPOLIS As soon as Fiona Robinson received communication from her school about letting her 2nd grader return for in-person learning, she opened up the discussion to include her son. It s not ideal having him home, but we can, it s possible, Robinson said. So I decided to let it be up to him whether he went back, and his take was that if he can keep his same teacher, he d like to go back in person.
Robinson said she felt comfortable enough with the precautions that Northrop Elementary would be taking.
