Since the EQC SUV has been delayed in the US the EQS is the first electric Mercedes-EQ to arrive in the US. But while the EQC shares the same platform as the combustion-powered GLC, the EQS is Mercedes first model built on the new dedicated Electric Vehicle Architecture platform, allowing for a distinctive design that sets the EQS apart from the S-Class.

Mercedes-Benz attaches to the new EQS. Designed and developed from the ground up, the big new luxury sedan is the first model to use the German carmaker’s dedicated Electric Vehicle Architecture (EVA) electric car platform.
Up until now, each model in the German carmaker’s fast-expanding EQ electric car line-up – the EQC, EQV and EQA – has relied on an existing platform shared with their respective combustion-engine siblings, the GLC, V-Class and GLA.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS is set to be revealed in just over a week’s time, with Stuttgart releasing the first details of its upcoming flagship electric sedan ahead of time. There’s a lot to unpack here, including the car’s headline figures, charging and aerodynamic efficiency, so let’s get straight to it.
Deemed as the S-Class of electric vehicles, the EQS will be the first to be built on the Electric Vehicle Architecture (EVA) and will be available in a number of different versions. Two models are being detailed here, the EQS 450+ and the EQS 580 4Matic+ – the latter obviously being offered with all-wheel drive. There will also be a high-performance model offered in the future, presumably wearing a Mercedes-AMG badge as previously reported.
