The trials are set to help identify software that can detect unmanned aircraft systems entering restricted areas
Miami International Airport (MIA) has been selected by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for the initial testing of technologies that will detect, track and identify (DTI) drones entering into restricted airspace.
The organisation chose the hub as the first unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) DTI testbed due to the intrusion technology pilot that is currently underway.
Drones are used for a wide variety of commercial and recreational purposes. Many are equipped with global positioning systems (GPS) that prevent usage in restricted zones. However, some do not follow these regulations and therefore pose a security and safety risk.

Services to Cancun, Punta Cana and the St Thomas will commence this spring
Frontier Airlines – a Colorado based low-cost carrier – has recently celebrated the launch of its services at Miami International Airport to three new destinations which begin this spring.
The new connections to Cancun in Mexico will run four times a week, alongside new rotations to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands which will be operated twice weekly.
Introducing three new routes from Miami is part of the airline’s expansion which began in December with the implementation of three weekly flights to Santo Domingo. This was then followed by the launch of its daily service to Orlando last month.
