Gusting winds and drifted snow made for difficult conditions on both roads and lakes Sunday, Feb. 24.
With wind speeds measured at 40 mph at the Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport over the weekend, many resorts on Mille Lacs Lake advised ice anglers to leave the lake early in the day Sunday to avoid hazardous conditions, though not everyone did so.
Walz orders flags at half-staff in honor of paramedic who died on duty

ST. PAUL, Minn. (FOX 9) - Governor Tim Walz is ordering flags to be flown at half-staff at federal and state government buildings on Thursday in honor of a Minnesota paramedic who died while on duty last week.
Toby Rowan was responding to a medical call when he collapsed at the scene and later passed away, according to the Mille Lacs County Sheriff s Office. Rowan worked as a paramedic for the Mille Lacs Health System in Onamia and Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.

Aitkin Police Chief Tim Catlin resigned late last month while on paid administrative leave during an investigation into a complaint, the Aitkin Independent Age reported Dec. 30.
The Aitkin City Council voted to accept Catlin’s resignation, but council members Erin Wagner and Leeann Moriarty opposed the motion. Wagner indicated her opposition centered on the fact the investigation into Catlin’s conduct would not continue by accepting the resignation.
Patient and paramedic die following medical call
While assisting with the medical call, one of the paramedics began to feel weak and dizzy and collapsed while on the scene and became unresponsive, the Mille Lacs County Sheriff s Office reported.

ISLE Both a patient and a paramedic died Wednesday, Jan. 6, in separate occurrences during a 911 medical emergency call at a residence in Isle.
The Mille Lacs County Sheriff s Office reported emergency responders were dispatched at 11:39 p.m. to a medical emergency at a residence on the 3200 block of Vista Road in Isle. Deputies and emergency personnel from Mille Lacs Health System attempted life saving measures on the patient, but were unsuccessful. The 58-year-old Isle resident was pronounced dead at the scene.

CROSBY, Minn. Several central Minnesota communities are mourning the loss of a paramedic who collapsed unexpectedly and died Wednesday night.
The Mille Lacs County Sheriff s Office says Toby Rowan, who worked for Mille Lacs Health system in Onamia, was on a medical call when he suddenly collapsed. Other medical and law enforcement personnel on the scene attempted life saving measures, but Rowan did not survive.
