MCTS announces winners of 1st Rosa Parks Tribute Scholarship By FOX6 News Digital Team Published  Thursday is the civil rights pioneer s birthday and National Transit Equity Day. High school seniors in Milwaukee County who will attend a trade school, college or university were invited to submit a short essay, inspired by Parks famous quote: Each person must live their life as a model for others. More than 50 essays were submitted and reviewed by a diverse panel of staff from MCTS, the Milwaukee County Department of Transportation, and the Milwaukee County Office on African American Affairs.  The following three students were chosen to each receive a $1,000 scholarship towards their higher education:

Milwaukee County may soon be advocating for a modernization of interstate infrastructure to improve traffic safety on the network of state highways that run through the county. County Supervisor Russell Antonio Goodwin, Sr. recently sponsored a resolution intended to draw attention to an interstate network he feels is needlessly dangerous in some areas. His resolution calls for a universal speed limit for interstates in Milwaukee County, citing the patchwork network of speed limits that contribute to sudden changes in speed between vehicles and dangerous bottlenecks on the freeways.

Multiple freeways have reopened after the state Department of Transportation reported multiple accidents and closures in Milwaukee County from slippery roads Sunday morning.  Interstate 794 at Lincoln Memorial Drive has been reopened after an accident at 7:30 a.m. closed southbound and westbound lanes. All lanes at Interstate 43 at Capitol Drive reopened after an accident closed the northbound lanes around 8 a.m. A crash on the ramp from Miller Park Way northbound to Interstate 94 eastbound has been cleared, as well as a crash at Oakwood Road on Interstate 41 southbound.
