Milwaukee County Medical Examiner Brian Peterson, who criticized a recent study of racial bias in forensic pathology, has been retained as a defense expert in the Derek Chauvin trial in Minneapolis. Chauvin, 45, is the former police officer charged in the May 25 death of George Floyd, 46, who died after Chauvin kept his knee on Floyd s neck for more than nine minutes. The defense began presenting its case Wednesday, in the trial s third week. Prosecutors say Floyd died from lack of oxygen as a result of Chauvin kneeling on his neck. The defense has raised the question of how much Floyd s drug use and prior health conditions played a role in his cause of death.
