Readers respond: Let businesses open again

I have to agree with Todd Carpenter’s letter, “It’s time to open Oregon” (Jan. 18). Businesses have spent a lot of money and gone above and beyond the call of duty to make sure their buildings are as safe as can be with spacing, air filtration, etc. My bowling alley (Milwaukie Bowl) and gym and others did all that was asked after being allowed to reopen for several weeks last October before being forced to shut again due to Gov. Brown’s new COVID-19 “risk” ratings. What really upsets me, though, is the double standard offered to places of worship. A church within two miles of us has services every Sunday; apparently there is no danger in getting the virus in these places. Don’t get me wrong: I am pro-mask, pro-Fauci, pro-social distancing and non-affiliated with any party, but it’s time for Gov. Brown to reconsider, especially knowing the vaccine rollout is well on its way. Again, many businesses ha
