MANGALURU: Nearly 60% of Christian weddings planned during the winter vacation have either been cancelled or postponed due to the pandemic. December-January is the season for weddings as people working abroad travel home for Christmas. This normally is also the time to finalise dates and venues for weddings to be held next year.
However, this year, Covid-19 restrictions on large gatherings and fear of contracting the virus are forcing people to postpone functions.
Ronald Castelino, PRO, Mangalore diocese said: “International travel is also a challenge as people have to undergo Covid-19 tests prior to departure and each country has its own quarantine rules. Many who are working abroad do not want to take a break and risk losing their jobs at this point too.”
