Mesa police arrested a man in connection with a homicide that occurred on June 9 in Porter Park.
Sean Newton, 21, was taken into custody Tuesday on the charge of second degree homicide, on suspicion of killing 42-year-old Tyrone Francisco.
According to police, at around 5 a.m. June 9, officers responded to Porter Park near Mesa Drive and Eighth Street for reports of gunshots fired.
Upon arrival, officers found Francisco unconscious on the ground with gunshot wounds to his torso and arm, arrest documents said. He was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said Francisco s brother told them during an interview that the two were sitting on a park bench when two white men came up to them and started cussing and yelling about their ethnicity.
