Northwestern Qatar’s DAMA Lab to advocate technology, innovation  09 Jan 2021 - 9:39 The Peninsula Doha: Northwestern Qatar’s Media Innovation Lab (MIL) went under a transformation last semester and will now be known as the DAMA Lab ((Digital Advancement and Media Applications Lab).  Under the leadership of Eric Espig, it will build a community of designers, journalists, researchers, students, and educators that will work on experiments in storytelling and research, focusing on three primary areas of collaboration - creative space and open lab; collaborative course work; and research partnerships and sandbox. According to Espig, the DAMA Lab will position itself to better support research and classwork at Northwestern Qatar so that it is “more connected in helping and sustaining digital and interactive projects that are happening throughout the Journalism, Communication, and Liberal Arts Programs.”

Queen’s announces multimillion-pound investment to boost screen industries in Northern Ireland Virtual Production Queen’s University Belfast has announced a £2.5 million investment for an interdisciplinary research facility, MediaLab, focusing on virtual production that will help drive R&D for the screen industries and upskill the local sector in Northern Ireland. Advances in computer game engines, scanning technologies and 3D rendering have driven a much-predicted convergence of film, animation, games and virtual reality technologies into a new world of virtual production.   This has triggered a step-change in production processes for filmmakers and broadcasting organisations worldwide, a shift that has been accelerated by the pandemic in 2020 as more of us have had to work remotely and from home.
