Fairmont State appoints new foundation board members

SUBMITTED PHOTO FAIRMONT — Fairmont State University is keeping its foundation s board in the family with new members, four university alumni and an previous member of the board of governors. Friday, Fairmont State announced it was appointing five new members to the board of directors for its nonprofit arm, the Fairmont State Foundation. The foundation handles all private donations that come in to the university. Among the new appointees are Kathy Martin, K. Alex Miller II, Chad Riley, John Wilson and Dixie Yann. All of whom have previous ties to the university either as an alumni or through previous board positions within the institution.

The Fairmont State University Black Student Union Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship, which was created by the BSU alumni organization, will be available to active, participating members of Fairmont State University’s Black Student Union.

While Fairmont State has approximately $63.5 million in total debt, and experienced a decline in enrollment for the past five years, according to Moody s, the credit rating service reports the university s financial outlook is stable.

CAPITO S OFFICE CLARKSBURG — U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito made two stops in Harrison County on Friday. The Republican senator toured the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division and the Fairmont State University Aviation Center for Excellence. At the FBI facility, Capito got a first-hand look inside the command and technology centers and received a briefing on CJIS’ National Instant Criminal Background Check System. In June, CJIS staff conducted 3,054,726 NICS checks making it the second highest June in the history of the system.
